Join us for a Painted Poetry - Water Edition workshop at the Springs Preserve. This family-friendly workshop will be open to children grades 6 and up (not age 6, grade 6! ;)).
Let’s imagine a past where water was much more abundant in Las Vegas. Let us, too, imagine the future we can create together by conserving this precious resource. Participants will have two hours to learn about haiku and haiga (painted haiku poetry), and write their own poem on an art print. They will also have time to explore the grounds/gardens for inspiration during the workshop.
Note for past participants of Painted Poetry held at Left of Center Gallery in 2023, with an overview of Japanese and “Western” haiku, this edition of Painted Poetry will focus on American haiku.
This workshop is free to attend and made possible with support from Black Mountain Institute.

We Write Las Vegas @wewritelv wishes to thank the Black Mountain Institute at UNLV for their generous support of our program. BMI champions writers and storytellers through programs, fellowships, and community engagement. It makes space for meaningful collaborations and conversations and understands service as vital. It asks questions about access, the environment, and labor. BMI finds its home in Las Vegas—a place of hospitality in the middle of a desert. Between the manufactured and natural, urban and wide expanse, built and rebuilt, bounty and scarcity, we live within narratives of destruction and preservation. From the brightest spot on the planet, Black Mountain Institute @BlackMtnInst amplifies writing and artistic expression to connect us to each other in the Las Vegas Valley, the Southwest, and beyond.
